In December 1975, when Ilich Ramírez Sánchez, aka Carlos the Jackal, and an armed group attacked Opec headquarters in Vienna and took dozens of ministers and delegates hostage, one man saved his cool. His title was Abdul Samad al-Awadhi, a member of the Kuwaiti delegation and a former head of the Kuwait Petroleum Company’s (KPC) Europe operations. He died in London final week.
On 21 December, Carlos and 5 males armed with weapons and explosives compelled their means into the Opec constructing and took 60 individuals hostage after killing an Austrian policeman, an Iraqi safety guard and a Libyan delegate. They known as themselves the “Arm of the Arab Revolution” and their declared goal was to liberate Palestine. To that finish they deliberate to kidnap the Opec ministers and maintain them for ransom.
