Ohio farmer: It simply retains raining

A northwest Ohio farmer says his crop is seeing the impacts of heavy rainfall this spring.
Greg Corcoran says he continues to battle constant moisture.
“There’s locations which have gotten no reduction,” he says. “With the heavier floor and despite the fact that the crops are up and out, it simply can’t deal with standing water for lengthy intervals of time on saturated floor. It makes you marvel about nitrogen. Is it going to have the ability to get to it, if it’s being suffocated.”
The USDA says Ohio corn is 40 % silking and rated, 6 % in the dough stage, and rated 59 % good to wonderful. Soybeans are 50 % blooming, 14 % setting pods, and rated 56 % rated good to wonderful.
He tells Brownfield he’s involved in regards to the long-term impacts.
“It’s actually the polar reverse of final yr with the drought,” he says. “This yr, we undoubtedly received the rainfall, and we begin to marvel what else are we going to cope with? What else are we going to battle this season with the heavy rain?”
Winter wheat is 93 % harvested, and oats are 98 % headed.
Corcoran says he’s at present making fungicide purposes to guard the crop from any illness strain.
